Effects of Warm Deformation on Mechanical Properties of TRIP Aided Fe-C-Mn-Si Multiphase Steel

Warm deformation tests were performed using a kind of tubby heater. The microstructures and mechanical properties of an Fe-C-Mn-Si multiphase steel resulting from different warm deformation temperatures were investigated by using LOM (light optical microscopy), SEM and XRD. The results indicated that the microstructure containing polygonal ferrite, granular bainite and a significant amount of the stable retained austenite can be obtained through hot deformation and subsequent austempering. Warm deformation temperature affects the mechanical properties of the hot rolled TRIP steels. Ultimate tensile strength balance reached maximum (881 MPa) when the specimen was deformed at 250 ℃, and the total elongation and strength-ductility reached maximum (38% and 28614 MPa·%, respectively) at deforming temperature of 100 ℃. Martensite could nucleate when austenite was deformed above Ms, because mechanical driving force compensates the decrease of chemical driving force. The TRIP effect occurs in the Fe-C-Mn-Si multiphase steel at deforming temperature ranging from 15 to 350 ℃. The results of the effects of warm deformation on the mechanical properties of the Fe-C-Mn-Si multiphase steel can provide theoretical basis for the applications and the warm working of the hot rolled TRIP sheet steels in industrial manufacturing.

A New Pb-free Machinable Austenitic Stainless Steel

In the present paper, the machinability tests were conducted by using various processing parameters on a CA6164 lathe with a dynamometer. The metallurgical properties, machinability and mechanical properties of the developed alloy were compared with those of an austenite stainless steel 1Cr-18Ni-9Ti. The results have shown that the machinability of the austenitic stainless steels with free-cutting additives is much better than that of 1Cr-18Ni-9Ti. This is attributed to the present of machinable additives. The inclusions might be composed of MnS. Sulfur and copper addition contributes to the improvement of the machinability of austenitic stainless steel. Bismuth is an important factor to improve the machinability of austenitic stainless steel, and it has a distinct advantage over lead. The mechanical properties of the free cutting austenitic stainless steel are similar to that of 1Cr-18Ni-9Ti. A new Pb-free austenitic stainless steel with high machinability as well as satisfactory mechanical properties has been developed.

Effect of Thermomechanical Processing on Mechanical Properties of Hot Rolled Multiphase Steel

The effect of thermomechanical processing (TMP) on the mechanical properties of hot rolled multiphase steel was investigated. TMP was conducted using a laboratory hot rolling mill, in which three different kinds of finish rolling deformation degrees and temperatures were applied. The results indicate that polygonal ferrite, granular bainite, and a considerable amount of stabilized retained austenite can be obtained by TMP. The stability of the retained austenite increases with decreasing finish rolling temperature and increasing finish rolling deformation degrees. Ultimate tensile strength (σb), total elongation (δ), and the product of ultimate tensile strength by total elongation (σb·δ) for 50% reduction at finish rolling temperature of 700 ℃ reach maximum values [791 MPa, 36% and 28 476 (MPa·%), respectively].

ON SPINODAL BOUNDARIES OF Al-Li ALLOYS

The spinodal decomposition can occur in Al-Li alloys containing 5.8-14.2 at.% Li at room temperature. The modutated structure wavelength is approximately 3.1 nm for com mercial Al-LI alloys. The limit composition of the miscibility gap is 3.66 -16.06 at.%Li at 298 K. The highest temperature of the miscibility gap is 377 K.

Crystal structure of γ-Li_xFe_2O_3,inserted Li electrochemically,was studied by Moss- bauer spectroscopy together with X-ray diffraction,XPS and electrochemical method,On the insertion of Li at low current density,the crystal structure is keeping original spinel; while at higher current density or by thermal activation,owing to violent movement of Li~+ ions,part of crystal structure transforms into rock type similar to face-centered cubic structure of ferrous oxide.The transition channels during insertion of Li~+ ions and limitation of Li~+ ions inserted were discussed.

Effect of Li(3)N additive on the hydrogen storage properties of Li-Mg-N-H system

The effect of Li(3)N additive on the Li-Mg-N-H system was examined with respect to the reversible dehydrogenation performance. Screening Study with varying Li(3)N additions (5, 10, 20, and 30 mol%) demonstrates that all are effective for improving the hydrogen desorption capacity. Optimally, incorporation of 10 mol% Li(3)N improves the practical capacity from 3.9 wt% to approximately 4.7 wt% hydrogen at 200 degrees C, which drives the dehydrogenation reaction toward completion. Moreover, the capacity enhancement persists well over 10 de-/rehydrogenation cycles. Systematic x-ray diffraction examinations indicate that Li(3)N additive transforms into LiNH(2) and LiH phases and remains during hydrogen cycling. Combined structure/property investigations suggest that the LiNH(2) "seeding" should be responsible for the capacity enhancement, which reduces the kinetic barrier associated with the nucleation of intermediate LiNH(2). In addition, the concurrent incorporation of LiH is effective for mitigating the ammonia release.

SUPERPLASTICITY OF A RAPIDLY SOLIDIFIED AI-Li ALLOY

A rapidly solidified microcrystalline Al-Li-Cu-Mg-Zr alloy and its superplasicity have been investigated.An optimum tensile elongation of 585% was obtained at 540℃ and strain rate 1.67×10~(-2)s~(-1).The superplastic Al-Li alloy is manufaetured using thermomechanical pro- cessing:solution,overaging,warm rolling and recrystallization.Microstructural changes in thermomechanical processing and cavitation occurred during superplastic deformation have been observed.The superplastic failure of alloy may be caused mainly by nucleation and growth of cavities as well as the linkage around grains.
